Adding Music and Recordings

 

Importing Music from an Audio CD

  1. Place the playhead where you want the music.
  2. Click the Audio button.
  3. Insert the CD.
  4. Select the track you wish to import.
  5. Click the Place at Playhead button.

Importing Music from the iTunes Library

  1. Place the playhead where you want the music.
  2. Click the Audio button.
  3. Select iTunes Library from the top menu.
  4. Select the song you wish to import.
  5. Click the Place at Playhead button.

Recording a Narration

  1. Connect a microphone to your Mac.
  2. Place the playhead where you wish to add the narration.
  3. Click the Audio button.
  4. Click the red button next to the volume meter in iMovie's Audio pane.
  5. As you record, iMovie adds your narration to the first audio track.
  6. Keep the Microphone meter in the green area.
Cropping Music
  1. Click on the audio track that you would like to crop.
  2. Place the playhead where you wish for the music to start.
  3. Choose EDIT and Split selected audio clip from playhead.
  4. Select the audio clip that you wish to remove and press the DELETE key.
  5. Now, place the playhead where you wish for the music to end.
  6. Choose EDIT and Split selected audio clip from playhead.
  7. Select the audio clip that you wish to remove and press the DELETE key.
Adjusting Volume

 

Adjusting the Volume of a Clip

  1. Select the clip
  2. Drag the volume slider located below the timeline.

To Fade IN or Fade Out

  1. Each volume marker has a tiny twin, a smaller marker appears to its left.
  2. To create an audio fade in, drag the smaller of the two markers all the way down to the bottom of the clip.
  3. To Specifiy the duration of the fade, drag the two markers further apart or closer together.
  4. To create a fade out, drag the larger marker all the way down.

 

Sharing/Exporting Your Movie

To a Quicktime Movie or to an Email

  1. Select EXPORT or SHARE from the edit menu.
  2. Choose TO QUICKTIME
  3. Select email or Web options
  4. Then select EXPORT.

iMovie will compress this movie for use as an email or to be played over the Web. This file will be compressed causing a jerky, grainy, or chunky appearance.


To a CD Movie

  1. Select CD_ROM from the dialog box/"Compress movie for...".
  2. Insert a CD into your Mac's optical drive
  3. Copy the movie to the CD.

Back to your Video Camera

  1. Connect your DVD video camera to the Firewire of the Mac.
  2. Make sure your camera is in VTR or VCR mode.
  3. Place a blank tape in your camera.
  4. Choose SHARE from the File Menu.
  5. In the Export dialog box, be sure TO CAMERA (or select videocamera) appears in the Export pop-up menu.
  6. You man change the Wait time and the seconds of black before and after the movie if you wish.
  7. Click Export. iMovie puts your camcorder in record mode and play back your movie, sending its video and audio data over the firewire cable to the camcorder.
